How Old Will I Be In Heaven On Earth
The Bible does not give a direct answer to the question. But if we do a little scripture digging, we can come to a reasonable conclusion on this issue.
God uniquely created Adam and Eve for the specific purpose of tracing their blood line down through the age to Jesus the Messiah. We do not know at what age Adam and Eve were originally created but we do know they were at least young adults as God left them alone during the day to explore the garden. God placed them in a protected microclimate garden in a land known as Eden. While God originally created them mortal, we know they were originally destined to live extremely long lives. And even though they sinned against God, Adam lived to be 930 years old, and his great grandson Methuselah lived to be 969 years of age. However, as part of the curse brought on by sin, each succeeding generation lived shorter and shorter life spans. Like all mortal physical bodies, Adam and Eve were apparently subject to injuries. Thus, they were provided by God with the fruit from the Tree of Life which could apparently be consumed if they needed help healing from external or internal injuries. Or, perhaps it could also eradicate the ageing process allowing them to live forever (Genesis 3:22). Thus, while they were not originally created in an immortal state of being, one might assume that at some point in their spiritual maturity, God may have rewarded them with immortality. This is essentially what will happen when believers, having been made sin free due to the sacrifice of Christ, are translated from mortal to immortal and raptured from the earth prior to the tribulation period (I Corinthians 15:51-57).
Adam and Jesus were both created with both similarities and differences. Adam was a one-off creation as was Jesus. Adam was created from the elements of the earth in the image of God. Jesus was created from the 23 chromosomes of Mary and 23 chromosomes provided by God through the power of the Holy Spirit. Jesus was part man through Mary His mother and part divine through God His Father. Thus, He could literally be called the “Son of Man” yet also be called the “Son of God”. Adam and Jesus were both created sin free and God allowed both of them to be tested by Satan for virtue. Satan told Eve that by eating the fruit of the Tree of Knowledge, “… you shall be as gods…” (Genesis 3:5). Adam was tempted and failed the test of virtue. Satan told Jesus that he would give Him the kingdoms of the world if He would worship him. Jesus rebuked Satan and passed the test of virtue. While Adam was personally taught by God concerning how he came into existence and the nature of the world around him, Jesus grew in wisdom with the help of His parents and inspired insights from the Holy Spirit (Luke 2:46-49, 52).
Scripture tells us very little about Adam and Eve’s early life in the Garden and Jesus’ life in Nazareth. Adam’s was assigned the task of tending the garden. Jesus was taught His father’s trade along with traditional schooling and studying the Torah. While Adam and Eve had no human parents, God nurtured them by walking with them through the garden in the cool of the evening. It was then they would tell Him of their adventures and He would answer their question. Jesus was nurtured by His mother Mary and His step father Joseph. But we may rightly assume that He was always under the watchful eye of God the Father and received answers to His questions by way of inspiration provided by the Holy Spirit.
Adam and Jesus were both created without sin but both could make the choice to sin if they so desired. The fruit of the Tree was not magical, it was an object lesson. To eat the fruit was an outward show of an inner change. Adam and Eve freely decided that they wanted to “be as gods” so they ate the fruit. This rebellion or sin against God was counterbalanced by an inner change. The changes were all made on a genetic level. First, an age limit was put into the human genome system. This was done as an act of mercy on the part of God in order to limit the amount of sin debt a person could create within a shortened life time. God began to slowly reduce the longevity of mankind over the next 2,000 years until the maximum age was set at 120 years (Genesis 6:3). The second genetic change that occurred was all people would now have a genetic predisposition to sin. This is because while Adam was created sin free in the image of God, his children will now be created in his image (Genesis 5:3). They are now created in the image of man which automatically includes the propensity to sin. Therefore, people do not become sinners because they sin, people sin because they are born sinners. This understanding is commonly referred to as Original Sin. Satan assumed that once man rejected the rule of God, they would in turn worship him because he was the prince of this world and because he was the one that liberated them from the rule of their creator. But this assumption was wrong. While some people would come to worshipped him, most worshiped material wealth, the flesh and themselves as god.
Jesus was mortal but He was always in complete control of when, where and how He would live and die. Because He had the ability to heal others, He also had the power to heal Himself. Thus, we never read of Jesus being sick nor anyone ever dying when He was nearby. In order for Jesus to die, He would have to command His spirit to leave His body. At His crucifixion, the Roman centurion witnessed Jesus commend His spirit into the hands of His Father and then immediately die. The centurion was so utterly amazed at this event that he said, “surely he Jesus was the Son of God!” (Matthew 27:54). Even while in the tomb for three days, Jesus’ body did not decompose or become corrupted (Acts 13:37). Instead, it waited in suspended animation for His spirit to return from Sheol. Jesus was in Sheol announcing to the righteous dead that He was the long-awaited Messiah and that because of His self-sacrifice on their behalf, they were now deemed righteous in the eyes of God. He told them that soon He would return to lead them from the captivity of Sheol to the presence of God (Ephesians 4:8). In the early morning of the third day after His death, Jesus’ spirit ascended up from Sheol and re-indwelled His body which was immediately revived but now in a state of immortality. He became the first fruit of the resurrection of the dead (I Corinthians 15:20).
Jesus had raised three people from the dead during His ministry but they did not arise in resurrected bodies. Instead, they continued to live out their lives as mortals and eventually died. However, Jesus’ resurrection had brought about a number of new and very unique physiological changes. First, He was no longer mortal but immortal. This means that while He was born mortal, He could now live eternally in His physical body. In other words, He had a physical beginning but now He had no physical ending. Secondly, He was now molecularly rearranged so that He was able to walk through solid objects such as the stone walls of His tomb and the room where His disciples were hiding. This ability is known as quantum tunneling. In His resurrected body, He could still be seen, touched, converse with believers, eat and drink. But now He could also move at the speed thought (Luke 24: 38-39). We know that Jesus could quiet storms and walk on water but He may have had many other abilities that he did not demonstrate until after His resurrection. These demonstrations by Jesus to His followers after He was resurrected from the dead suggest that He is showing all believers that they too should expect to have these same abilities after their resurrection or translation at the rapture. And, Jesus appeared to His followers as He looked before His crucifixion and resurrection. So, we have every reason to assume that we will also be resurrected in bodies that are 33 years old. The Apostle Paul alludes to this in his letter to the Philippians (Philippians 4:21).
This means that at the resurrection and rapture of the dead and the living, all believers should expect to have their bodies transformed into perfectly healthy thirty-year old’s just like Christ’s body was. We will also know what it is like to no longer comprehend the world using only a small percentage of our brains. We will now be able to access one hundred percent of our mental capacities just like Christ. We will not only have a new appreciation of our now righteous fellow man and the pristine world around us, but we will also have a new, better and profound understanding of the mind of God and creation just as Christ had. We will be mentally alert and physically active as was never possible before our translation to an immortal state of being. We will be able to solve any problem instantly and work tirelessly. We will not need food as we are now running on the pure never-ending power of the Holy Spirit. This may at first sound impossible but today science has already created contained fusion energy. The earth has an unlimited and easily accessed supply of the fuel needed. The fuel is a type of hydrogen, only 2 grams can produce enough energy to supply a person’s needs for 60 years and the process produces no radioactive waste! In our reconstituted bodies, we could eat food just as Christ did after His resurrection but we will not require it for sustenance but only for the pleasure of taste. We will be able to imagine ourselves anywhere and find ourselves there in seconds just as Christ did on the road to Emmaus. We will able to pass through solid objects and project ourselves into heaven and back just like Christ did. We will be able to walk on water or swim under the water at tremendous speeds with no need for air tanks. As immortals, we will experience no sickness, pain or death just like Christ. As the bride of Christ, we will have become the children of God and as such will inherit all the joys, wonders and eternal experiences that await us through the ever-changing Ages of Ages
We know that there are 100 thousand million stars in our Milky Way Galaxy. And astronomers estimate that there are as many as two trillion galaxies! I highly suspect that the vastness of space will one day be the ultimate playground of us as God’s children. Thus, the sky is not the limit but only the first stop. Just think of that the next time you look up onto the night sky. All that you see is an unimaginable future gift from God to you as His most beloved through Christ!
